Hi, I'm Sophie Bello!
I was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and have explored the marsh my entire life. I created this project as my senior thesis for the University of South Carolina Honors College, and was greatly inspired by the work of artist Sara Schneckloth, a member of my defense team. This would not be possible without the guidance of Sara and Marius Valdes, my equally inspiring thesis mentor.
I seek to continue researching, painting, and playing with mud, and I am excited to see where this project takes me. I additionally created a zine for this project, and you can find a digital version here.
